Just a clarification

Had a conversation yesterday that I thought was a good point to share. People have said more than once about buying organics that is isn’t necessary because we grew up eating this food and we are okay.

So first, we are not okay. The rates of disease in this country have never been higher. Don’t believe me? Come sit at the chemo center for a week and see how many people you run into that you know.

The other fallacy is that this is the same food you were eating 30 or 40 years ago. It is not. Look at old pictures of chickens and then look at a picture of a chicken about to be “processed” by a manufacturer.

They are completely different. Our foods have now gone through decades of change from chemicals. Not just the ones that are now part of our day to day life through the air we breathe but from the massive amount of chemicals we add to our livestock to make them more profitable and grow our food in to make it disease and pest resistant.


We did not have to label the food as Organic, because the organic food was just food. Eating organics is simply making the choice to eat food that is closer to it’s original state.

  1. I think that one reason we are seeing more sick people, is that there are simply more people, plus our population is aging. And the trouble with buying organic stuff, is that you don’t know what you are paying twice as much for. It’s a self-regulated industry. Unless you grow it yourself (I did for years), or live close to where it’s grown and can keep an eye on it, you just don’t know.
    Sulfur and copper powders are used in organic farming, which are dangerous to breathe. The manure they use for fertilizer probably comes from normally grown animals and has a lot of nitrogen in it which washes into streams the same as any fertilizer.
    As far as I know, there is no scientific evidence that organic food is better for you than the normal stuff.
    The organics industry spends a fortune on advertising both for itself and against regular.
    I just can’t bring myself to spend more for organic after having researched it.

    1. Funny how different information gets out isn’t it? Every study I have seen that wasn’t sponsored by a chemical, dairy or food company shows that there is significant evidence that organic fruits and vegetables retain more of their nutrients and those nutrients have more bioavailability.
      For me it is a matter of degrees. If there is even the tiniest bit of additional safety associated with organics, I will buy them whenever I can. I still at plenty of non-organic but I try to increase my odds of health as much as possible.
      This is kind of my go to site for clarification because multiple studies are usually compared for any question and its easy to go the next step and research the studies talked about.
