Intruder Alert! Intruder Alert!

Let us start with a nice innocuous video;

Before we move on to my colon!

Had my first colonoscopy today. Was not terrible.  Before the main event as soon as I was in the room I said – Knock me out! and that is truly the last thing I remember until I woke up in recovery.

I have a few recommendations for the prep. Go on a low residue diet for the week before, or at least a few days. Google it. It really will help. In effect you are helping to clean your colon out before you have to do it with the gaggerific medicine. Also drink and drink and drink everything you can get your hands on for the days before.

Results; Nothing earth shattering I am happy to say. They of course have sent tissue samples for biopsy but there were no polyps. There was “moderately severe” diverticulosis, but we already knew that, some swelling, not a big shock, and “loss of vascular markings”. I do not have a clear idea of what that means but it shows upon Google  in results for ulcerative colitis and IBS along with other findings. I assume it just means my innards are not as healthy as they could be.

The only picture I will share is the diverticulosis which is a pocket in your intestines which has pushed out. I have radiation enteritus and this seems to be a common thing to go with it. When something gets stuck inside the little pocket it is called diverticulitis and that is unpleasant.

The weirdest thing is that when I came out of procedure I have an incredibly runny nose, and I cannot stop sneezing! It is terrible and disgusting! I am also coughing so it feels like a full on cold which does not make any sense at all. I have nose spray that stops mucus production and even that is not working! I do not know, maybe they forgot which end they were supposed to go in at first.

That is all. If you are going to be having a colonoscopy and need reassurances, let me know. I will tell you the procedure for internal radiation for cervical cancer and the colonoscopy will seem much better!

  1. I have diverticulosis, too. The first prep I had was very difficult. Second and third not that bad because they changed the prep procedure.

    The low residue diet is an excellent suggestion along with massive quantities of liquid.

    Cute puppy video.

Don’t leave without saying something!
